| History: |
Most papyri of the older collection, published in P.Vars., have been destroyed in 1939. Only the following still survive : P.Vars. 1 a-n, P.Vars. 5-8, P.Vars. 10, P.Vars. 16, P.Vars. 26; see Z.Borkowski, P.Vars. (reedition 1974, addendum). Some papyri from the Berlin collection are kept at the institute, e.g. BGU 1018 (see JJP 22, 1992, pp.8-9). The Ostraca (109 Greek, 12 Coptic) and mummy labels from the collection A. Deissmann were destroyed during the second world war, with the exception of a single mummy label from Akhmim and 6 ostraca; cf. J. Manteuffel, Atti del IV Congresso Firenze 1935, Milan 1936, pp.45-50; M. Mossakowska, Tell-Edfou soixante ans après. Fouilles Franco-polonaises IV, Cairo 1999, p.49-50. At the university of Warsaw are kept about 20 ostraca, Greek, demotic and Arabic, found in the Franco-Polish excavations of Tell Edfu. |
