| Summary DemLü: | New edition of this early Demotic text from el-Hibeh,probably a copy of a draft of a petition. The first volume contains a short general introduction in which the importance of P. Ryl. 9 as a source for the history of Egypt in the broadest sense is highlighted, a hieroglyphic transcription, a transliteration and translation, a summary of its contents, a prosopographic index, a new transliteration of the connected P. Ryl. 1 and 2, and a family tree of the plaintiff Padiese. The second volume starts with a section on the language of the papyrus, mainly a survey of the grammatical forms found in it, but also some excursus on constructions and lexicographic problems. The very elaborate line-commentary is followed by studies of specific aspects of the text. These concern three new readings proposed by the author (mr-©.t in P. Ryl. 1, and ‡n© ›pantry, bakery‹ as well as mr-rw.t ›master of the hall‹); the hieratic copies of the stelae incorporated in the text; the justification of the claims of Padiese; the connection between the rest of the el-Hibeh archive and P. Ryl. 9; the purpose of the document; the transfer of priesthoods; and the history of the ruling families of Heracleopolis. The volume is rounded of with a bibliography, indices, and addenda. |
