Fonts

Trismegistos occasionally uses foreign alphabets, such as Greek, Demotic or Coptic, for certain information (e.g. place names). Trismegistos works exclusively with Unicode for encoding these characters such as Greek, Coptic or Demotic entries. On most recent computers, unicode compatible fonts are already installed, such as Lucida Grande (Mac OS X) or Palatino (Windows). If any of these fonts is already installed on your computer, the unicode Greek, Coptic or Demotic should display fine as it is; certain characters, however, may be missing from these standard fonts and will then display as a 'box'.

To ensure full compatibility with Trismegistos, we recommend using the font developed by the IFAO (Institut français d'Archéologie Orientale), which can be downloaded from the IFAO website for free. Install the IFAO-Grec Unicode font, at the bottom of the IFAO page, to make your computer display the Greek, Coptic and Demotic characters correctly.

As an alternative, check the font Gentium (free download at SIL).
