» Fill in one or more search criteria; for every search field, you can specify up to two requests, combined by the boolean 'OR' or 'AND':
Limit: Egypt only     Outside Egypt     Egypt and abroad
Publication: lookup    lookup
E.g. BGU 3 802; P. Dryton 5; SB 22 15416; I. Fayoum 1 98; ...
When looking for a specific text with a publication siglum, the quickest way to find it is to combine a search for the singlum with one for the number, e.g. 'BGU AND 802'. In case of doubt about the abbreviation, please use the lookup function above. Alternatively, you can go through the (non-exhaustive!) TM Bibliography http://www.trismegistos.org/genbib/search.php which has links to texts published in that reference.
Editor:
E.g. Crum, Walter Ewing; Spiegelberg, Wilhelm; Grenfell, Bernard P. / Hunt, Arthur S. Normally it is best to search for a single surname only; if the first name is necessary to distinguish two scholars, please use a combination: 'Maspero AND Gaston'.
Inventory:
E.g. Berlin, Ägyptisches Museum P. 11336; Paris, Louvre E 10594; Leipzig, Universität 603; ...
When looking for a specific text, the quickest way to find it is to combine a search for the English name of the city with one for the number, e.g. 'Paris AND 10594'. Alternatively, you can search for a collection here.
Material:
E.g. papyrus; limestone; pottery; ostracon; stele; statue; ...
Language/script:
E.g. hieroglyphic; hieratic; Greek; Demotic; Arabic; Latin; ...
Provenance:
E.g. Egypt, Greece, Panopolis, Akhmim... You can search for our standard Greek name or the Arabic equivalent we have chosen; e.g. Pathyris or Gebelein. To find out which of all the possible variants we have picked, the best solution is to search in the Places database, where you can try any spelling or variant in the quicksearch. Alternatively, you can pick a place from a map: click here.
Nome/region: lookup    lookup
E.g. U09 (for the 9th Upper Egyptian nome), L01 (for the 1st Lower Egyptian nome), or 00 (for the Fayum). Only codes can be used in this field; to enter them, click 'lookup' above to choose a nome from the geographically ordered list.
Provincia:
Search for texts using the name of the Roman provincia; so far only Macedonia and Venetia et Histria (Regio X) have been added. !!! Make sure to choose 'Outside Egypt' or 'Egypt and abroad' for the search limit at the top of this search form, or your search for texts from Roman provinces other than Egypt will not yield any results !!!
Date: between and strict
E.g. between -30 and 25. For BC dates use negative numbers. To look for exact dates fill out the same number twice. The standard 'strict' search only includes records whose ranges entirely fall within the search range. When 'strict' is unchecked, the computer will also include records for which only one of the terms of the record's range falls in the search range, provided the range of the record is not broader than that of the search range. Thus records with a range -50 to -20 will be included amongst the results of the example search, but not those with a range -332 to -30.
A wildcard character is added automatically before and after your search string, to facilitate searching.

If you want to search for records with a field not empty, type an underscore '_' as search-value for that field.
