Protagonist: Totoes (Go to TM People)

Description: The archive was found early 1905 during excavations of the Egyptian Museum of Turin, in two sealed jars in a house near the Hathor temple at Deir el-Medina. The papyri were wrapped in strips or linen cloths bearing archival notes. The protagonists are the couple Totoes and Tatehathyris, members of Egyptian priestly families, who lived in Djeme on the Theban West bank and worked mainly in the Hathor temple. The archive (194-100 BC) contains documents from Totoes and his parents Zmanres and Tanouphis, which became intermingled with those from Totoes' wife Tatehathyris and her ancestors, including her great-grandfather Psenminis, her grandmother Labois and her father Psenminis. A large part of the contracts are related to liturgical days in the Hathor temple and other shrines. Another cluster of texts deals with a plot called ‘The Point’, inherited by Tatehathyris and leased by her or her husband. The archive also includes a number of marriage and divorce contracts, kept for relatives.
