History

In 1937 the Brooklyn Museum acquired the Demotic papyri and ostraca of the New York Historical Society (cf. P. Brooklyn Dem. p. viii). The whole collection (about 2000 objects) came to the Brooklyn Museum, first as a long term loan and in 1948 as a purchase.
