TM Gallery info The Copper Scroll (TM 397677) is the only Dead Sea scroll written on metal, in casu copper. It was excavated in 1952 in Qumran Cave 3 and sent to Manchester to be 'unrolled', i.e. cut in 23 strips to be read. Style, language and probably also later 1st century AD date are different from most Qumran material. The contents of the scroll are even more particular: rather than a literary text or contract, the text is an enumeration of places where different large treasures of gold and silver were buried.
